Clarification Regarding Levitation

Lorraine asked George, “How long a period of time were you in your home before levitations took place to any member of the family?” It was important to clarify this critical clue to demonic involvement.

“That didn’t happen until the last few nights we were there and after we left the house,” George answered.

“Did every member of the family have problems with levitation, George?”

“No, mostly Kathy, and me once. However, one night the children’s beds were slammed around. The beds moved up and down, and were dragged across the floor. While this was happening, I felt like I couldn’t move in bed. Kathy was in what appeared to be in a sleep trance, but rigid, and sliding away from me. And the same time there was a lot of noise going on downstairs.”

The immobility George described, and Kathy’s rigid, deep sleeplike state are what is known as “psychic paralysis.” It is frightening to the person who experiences it, and frustrating. The one who is conscious cannot believe that the loud noises and other disturbances aren’t waking up the other person so they can help or witness the experience. Psychic paralysis is not uncommon in evil-infested environments—night or day. I myself have experienced this powerlessness. One such occasion was while investigating the basement in the Amityville house.

I said to George, “In the book, you came into the room and saw Kathy levitating and you grabbed her. Could you tell us about that?”

“This happened when we were meditating at Kathy’s mother’s house,” George explained. “I looked up, and Kathy was rigid and sliding right up the wall like she was being hung with her hands as if they were tied together. I had just come out of meditation and couldn’t believe it. It didn’t even register. I grabbed her and pulled her down, and woke her up. She had huge welts on her tummy. I called her mother in to see them.

“Another time, Kathy and I had been asleep, and we were flying around in the room.”

“Were you conscious of this?” I asked.

“Yes, he said. “When we looked down, the bed below us was empty. It was immediately after we had moved out of the house that this happened. When Kathy levitated in our Amityville house, there was so much going on, I just grabbed her down, and pulled her back.”

“Was it hard to pull her down, George?”

“No, she came right back down.”

“Was she conscious at that time?”

“She woke up right after that.”

“Was she frightened?”

“She was surprised, not terrified like I was. But she could see the terror in my face.”

“How many times did you and Kathy actually levitate?”

“I levitated a couple of times with Kathy at my mother-in-law’s house. I didn’t levitate at all in our house. Kathy levitated twice in our house in her sleep.”

“How long did you actually levitate?”

“It felt like a long time, but it was probably no more than five minutes.”

“And one time when you and Kathy were levitating—I remember you told me you looked over
